D.P. Vaidya addresses IP Management Conference

Mr. D.P.Vaidya, Director and Head, Engineering, Lakshmi Kumaran and Sridharan, was among the distinguished speakers at the conference on Intellectual Property (IP) management held at Hyderabad, India on 15th and 16th of July, 2011. The conference was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) along with APTDC. Senior representatives from the industry and IP professionals attended the conference.

Mr. Vaidya highlighted the urgency for the leaders of Indian companies, small and big, to initiate steps immediately to leverage IP opportunities and minimize IP risks by integrating the IP strategy with the business strategy. He talked about prevailing myths and mindset about IP management, especially in the Indian context.

Mr. Vaidya’s presentation touched upon topics like designing an IP strategy, IP implementation framework, and leveraging IP for enhanced competitiveness. His pointers regarding how Indian companies can improve their patent filings, both in quality and in number, to protect indigenously developed technology were well-appreciated.

Eminent speakers from the industry including multinational firms in India addressed the conference. Ms. Shukla Chandra from GE Global Research, Mr. Keshav Dhakad from Microsoft Corporation India, Mr. Somnath Chakraborthy from Honeywell Technology Solutions, Dr. Sumitesh Das from Tata Steel and Mr. Qutbuddin Siddiquee from Crompton Greaves spoke about the best practices used for IP management in their organizations and suggested guidelines on how companies can create an IP oriented work culture.

The IP fraternity was also represented by eminent jurists including Justice Prabha Sridevan, Chairman, Intellectual Property Appellate Board, India. Mr. S. Chandrasekharan, former Controller General of Patents, Trademarks and Design, India also addressed the audience.
