International Trade Amicus: November 2012

Various aspects of 'sampling' in the European Union's anti-dumping law and how it can be used in the Indian circumstances, which may also require amendment in the Indian anti-dumping provisions is the topic of discussion this month in "International Trade Amicus". In WTO, while the Appellate body of the DSB has upheld the recommendations of the panel in the dispute involving imposition of anti-dumping and countervailing duties by China on electrical steel from USA, Mexico has sought consultations with China on subsidy to clothing and textile products. While still talking of textiles and clothing industry, USA and Turkey have urged India to stop subsidizing these industries. Meanwhile, Committee on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures has approved final extension of the transitional period for export subsidy programs of 19 developing countries.
