Mr. Punit Tyagi currently heads the Commercial Disputes practice of the firm at New Delhi. He has more than 30 years of core litigation experience and has handled matters across numerous practice areas relating to commercial/civil disputes.
Punit Dutt Tyagi is an Executive Partner at Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan and heads the team of lawyers involved in civil, commercial and corporate litigation and arbitrations for Indian and foreign clients. He is an Advocate-on-record before Supreme Court of India since 1994.
Punit and his team deals with commercial litigations covering a plethora of subject matters under various legislations. Some of his core expertise include Contractual/Mercantile Laws, Securities Law, Consumer Protection Laws, Labour/Employment Laws, Media Laws, Personal Laws, Property Laws/Land related laws, Stamp Duty issues, Insolvency and Bankruptcy, etc.
He also represents clients in arbitration matters in India and abroad. He has been involved in more than 40 high-stake arbitration matters for various industry giants, and has secured reliefs valued over INR 10,000 Crore for the clients. The team led by him is presently handling suits and arbitrations for various Government Sector, Public Sector and Private Sector companies. Besides the core litigation expertise, Punit and his team also provides advises and supports clients on regulatory laws, which include, laws relating to the Power Sector, Mining and Mineral Development, Real Estate, Drugs, Cosmetics and Medical Devices, Food Law and Legal Metrology.
He regularly delivers lectures and has participated on panel discussions on various topics particularly, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
Punit Tyagi started his career as a trial lawyer in the District Courts in UP with is practice primarily including civil, commercial, property and land/revenue matters. He moved to Delhi in 1991. In 1994, he qualified as Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India with first position. During his initial years he worked as an attorney with the then distinguished and reputed law firm, M/s J. B. Dadachanji & Co, where he independently handled many major matters for various clients and appeared on a regular basis before Supreme Court and various High Courts. In the year 2003 he was appointed standing counsel for the State of Uttar Pradesh before Supreme Court. During his stint as Standing Counsel for the State of UP in the Supreme Court of India, he represented the State in several important matters relating to Luxury Tax, Entry Tax, etc. before Constitution Bench. Post his resignation as standing counsel in the year 2005, he has successfully represented several top business giants in India in various arbitrations and court litigation
