WIPO Seminar on Madrid System for Registration of Marks

24th – 25th November, 2011, Geneva

The World Intellectual Property Organization is organising a seminar on the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks on 24th and 25th of November, 2011 in Geneva.

The Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks is governed by the Madrid Agreement of 1891 and the Madrid Protocol. It is administered by the WIPO.

According to WIPO, the Madrid System offers a simple, flexible, time and cost-effective way to protect a trademark in many countries of the Madrid Union by filing a single international application. The number of trademark owners using the Madrid system to protect their trademarks internationally, has been increasing every year.

The proposed seminar seeks to increase awareness and practical knowledge of the system among users in the industry and private practice.  It focuses on the needs of independent and in-house trademark agents who file applications for international registration of trademarks and/or who administer such registrations.  The event will cover international registration procedure and relevant administrative and legal questions.
