International Trade Amicus: September 2015

An article discussing some of the important changes made by the American Trade Enforcement Effectiveness Act to relax USA’s trade remedy law in favour of its domestic industry is covered under Article Section of this issue of International Trade Amicus. This article pertains to some of the significant changes made both in anti-dumping (ADD) and countervailing (CVD) measures by the US authorities.

Tables containing trade remedy measures cover 13 measures by India and 5 measures taken against products from India. News covered under WTO News section of this issue includes Compliance Panel report issued by WTO on EU’s AD measures on fasteners from China. A panel has been established to examine Indonesia’s complaint on AD imposed by EU on biodiesel; Vietnam has initiated Safeguard investigation on import of Monosodium Glutamate; and more countries have ratified the Trade Facilitation Agreement taking the total number of ratifications to 16. All these developments are brought to readers in this issue.

European Union’s Court of Justice has rejected the petition seeking annulment of ADD imposed after sunset review contending that support for continuation of duties had fallen below the threshold of 50% of community producers and this order has been summarised in the Ratio Decidendi column of this issue.
